In quantum mechanics, Schrödinger's cat is a thought experiment that illustrates a paradox of quantum superposition. In the thought experiment, a hypothetical cat may be considered simultaneously both alive and dead as a result of its fate being linked to a random subatomic event that may or may not occur.

Collaborating with Content Creators Using @airtable

Sun, 05/23/2021 - 17:12

I HAVE AN OBSERVER (pictured) who watches most of what I create during our emergency remote teaching sessions on our kitchen table. And I have collaborators online who use Airtable while iterating their content into distinct channels. This blog post is my first attempt to see if it's possible to use mobile phones to dynamically track media texts as they evolve from PowerPoint decks to Spotify segments to embedded content on LinkedIn and short videos on Twitter. Along the way the recorded content will percolate up onto YouTube and WordPress for review by a leading author and for reuse by younger students following similar academic programmes.

This is a skunkworks project and content won't be in place until June 3, 2021.

I get meaningful feedback from observers every time I share extracts from my teaching practice. I've embedded the Airtable I'm using to track the work of 34 students in the final semester of their Honours degrees. The hyperlinks could be easily used by externs reviewing student work. I believe some of my colleagues might see value in some of the academic skills demonstrated by fourth year BSc students who are in the final month of Honours Degrees accredited by the Limerick Institute of Technology.

Essential for Building a Second Brain

Building a Second Brain #BASB

Sat, 05/22/2021 - 07:49

I'm listening to Daniel Schimpke while trying to reduce my tool stack for my Personal Knowledge Management setup. The goal is to make it simple and create value for my own content creation. Here are some things I'm reviewing while planning to build a second brain.

    • Using @readwiseio while reading anything on paper a paper book so I can digitise at source instead of adding to my stash. Readwise will give me quotes on a daily basis, helping me remember things that have real value.
    • Capture. Organise. Distill. Express.
    • PARA: Projects. Areas. Resources. Archives.

    • I must tame my downloads folder. It is the primary source of information bloatage.
    • Groom notes so they make sense to my daughter in 20 years time.
    • Prefix the notes you add to a page with a full stop because that triggers @Readwiseio to inject a tag to the note.
    • Visit my archives because when they are dusted off in regular intervals, they uncover truly actionable messages.
    • Share part of your flow with members of a small group. I call my special group 4C.
    • In the morning, I ask myself what was the top takeaway of the previous day. I'm restarting this process as part of my Topgold Audio Clips.
Listen to "The Rigor Of Transmedia Production E534 #digped" on Spreaker.

Editor's Note: I've been working at this second brain initiative for more than 1m page views of my blog.
