Cognification. Happening faster than any other trend.

Bernie Goldbach - Tue, 02/11/2020 - 17:20

THE FABRIC OF LIFE is getting smarter every year because our world is cognifying. Kevin Kelly offered this observation more than seven years ago as he started sharing parts of The Inevitable, an essential conversation starter in the Emerging Trends and Technology module on the Clonmel Digital campus.

Today, 2D rigger Jess Cheeseman explains how she has seen cognification affect her life and the lives of her family in Canada.

Listen to "Cognification. Happening NOW. E38" on Spreaker. During WWII, all the major countries of the world used automation to build their armies. Jeep reflected on how their factories cranked out the ubiquitous 4WD vehicle that become an iconic fixture of ground warfare.

Today, AI in Teslas and other autonomous vehicles offers a glance at a world safer for all drivers. But as Jessica explains, there are other issues with cognification that mandates careful consideration with respect to the special AIs we are allowing in our lives. Her thoughts are part of episode 38 of Emerging Trends, a podcast you can find on all major audio networks.

Jessica Cheeseman is one of 45 students this spring who have read The Inevitable and are sharing their observations about changes ahead in society. They will share their thoughts during a "Creativity and Technology" public discussion on 24 March in the South Tipperary Arts Centre.

The Day Borja Brought Black Mirror into Class

Bernie Goldbach - Tue, 02/11/2020 - 13:32
CLEVER CREATIVES like Borja Lopez Montes teach me things I will always remember. Today, Borja revived my memory of scary bees when he brought Black Mirror into the classroom as part of a presentation about "tracking".

Rigging Amazon Flex’s gig economy algorithm

Damien Mulley - Mon, 02/10/2020 - 22:43

Using a device you can buy on Amazon! Amazon Flex gig takers get crap money to do vicarious work for the 2nd biggest company in the world. To get more gigs they figured out how to game the gig distribution algorithm.

Content Management and Youth Media

Bernie Goldbach - Mon, 02/10/2020 - 13:30

WE HAVE RESTARTED another audio patching task that involves repairing broken audio links on the Youth Media Team website. This is a problem of my own making and one that Pam O'Brien and I will fix through a process of improved content archiving. I talk about it in a three minute Topgold Audio Clip that you can hear on Spotify.

Listen to "Auditing Youth Media Team E485" on Spreaker.

As an aside, I'm amazed to see that Audioboom kept hundreds of hours of my audio recording on its site years after I stopped paying my subscription. But after missing two months with Spreaker, I lost 70 clips on its content management system. You live and learn.
